My Journey in Fire Service Leadership
My journey in fire service leadership has been one of purpose, passion, and partnership. Through the grace and support of Africa Fire Mission, PCPM Kenya, through Chief fire officers association, I transformed from a firefighter only by the name into a fire leader dedicated to advancing fire safety standards in Kenya and beyond. Their many years of training and guidance inspired a lifelong mission—to professionalize, empower, and elevate the fire service in our nation.
Today, I’m proud to have played a pivotal role in shaping and strengthening Kenya’s fire service landscape through impactful contributions, transformative initiatives, and international collaborations. My work has helped align Kenya’s fire services with global standards, while training and mentoring thousands of firefighters both locally and internationally.
Key Contributions
Kenya Fire Service Scheme of Service
Contributed significantly to the development of Kenya’s Fire Service Scheme of Service. When I joined, firefighters were not even recognized under the official salary framework (SRC), and there was no clear career structure. I championed the inclusion and professionalization of fire service roles nationwide.
Professional Fire Bill 2024
Played a leading role in the drafting of the Professional Fire Bill 2024—a bold legislative step toward regulating fire services, enhancing compliance, accountability, and elevating the profession across Kenya.
National Firefighter Curriculum
At a time when Kenyan firefighters were largely working without structured training or defined career paths, I participated in the development of a government-recognized National Firefighter Curriculum, ensuring consistent, professional standards in training, skills, and certification across the country.
Standard Operating Procedures for Government Fire Services
Spearheaded the development of national SOPs now adopted by multiple government fire departments, setting the gold standard for emergency response, discipline, and operational efficiency.
Google Fire Alert Ignition Detection Pilot Project
Participated in a groundbreaking collaboration with Google that provides real-time wildfire alerts with pinpoint accuracy (100m x 100m grids). This initiative has revolutionized early wildfire detection and response across Kenya.
International Author & Fire Service Thought Leader
Featured in the U.S. Wildfire Magazine with a groundbreaking article on drought-driven wildfires in Kenya. This international exposure opened doors for over 1,000 Kenyan firefighters to explore careers abroad.
